Malolo Sangam opens new temple
21-Oct-2009 09:05 AM

SANGAM members of Malolo have been able to give their temple a new look after six years of hard work and an expense of over $200,000.

The Malolo Sangam Temple which was established in 1952 by village elders to promote the Hindu religion today stands as a monument of pride for all the people of Malolo outside Nadi.

The premises now has a brand new Venkatesh Perumal / Maha Vishnu Temple which has been proudly built by local builders while the temple has been brought to life with paintings and sculptures created by artists all the way from India.

Temple president Karna Raju said that the new temple would now give the entire premises a
professional look and he has welcomed all devotees to take advantage of the new facilities.

“We are very thankful to all the donors from Fiji and abroad who have given us funds and support to be able to complete this project,” Raju told THE JET.

The opening ceremony was stretched over a week-long programme which began from Monday, October 5 and ended with a grand function on Sunday, October 11.

The official opening of the Venkatesh Perumal / Maha Vishnu Temple was done on Thursday October 8 in the presence of hundreds of devotees and well wishers by the Morarji brothers Navin and Jayanti in memory of their late parents Morarji Kalidas and Harakh Ben.

Another addition to the premises is the new Lord Ganesha temple which has been proudly donated by the directors of Dominion Transport Limited in memory of their late father Permal Padayachi and the Lord Shiva temple donated by Satya Nand and family of Nand’s Shopping Centre in Malolo.

How do you feel about the rise in fuel prices and increase in taxi and bus fares?
Aritema Navonicagi, 52 “Well in my opinion it is quite early to increase bus and taxi fares because Fiji is not settled politically.”
Nemaniu Qalo, 47 “The bulk of Fiji’s population live in the low income category and we low income earners have very little control over this increase. It will eventually affect everything else, especially food which is the source of livelihood.”
Tara Wati, 50 “I spend approximately $4.50 from my home to the place I sell food every day. I receive very little profit after I deduct all my expenses.”
