Police deny fuel shortage claims - 19-Jul-2008

SPECULATION that the police vehicles at the Nabua Police Station were without fuel for the third night last night has been blatantly denied by the police.

A source told Fiji Daily Post that police officers working night shift at the Nabua Police Station had to patrol the area walking.

It was also revealed that officers could not attend to reports from nearby areas because
there were no vehicles to take them.

However the Fiji Police Force has rubbished these claims stating that they have more than enough fuel for all vehicles at all stations in the country.

Police spokesperson, Atunaisa Sokomuri denied all claims saying that as far they were concerned there was no such thing as a shortage of fuel in the police department.

“There is fuel here which could cater for all vehicles in all stations around the country,” Sokomuri said.

He added that they do not know why the vehicles at the Nabua Police Station do not have enough fuel.

Divisional Police Commander Southern, Emori Lekai said that there was nothing unusual about officers walking at night and patrolling.

“We also do our patrolling by walking and we also use vehicles at times,” he added.
Comments could not be obtained from the Director of Operations yesterday as he was in a
meeting.
