Fuel price down - 17-Oct-2009
More taste in Diwali has been added after the Prices and Incomes Board announced the decrease in the wholesale and retail prices of fuel.
Fiji Daily Post crew went round Suva City and interviewed people on what they thought of the decrease in fuel prices.
Rama Nand of Nadera said the decrease in the fuel meant re-looking at their family budget.
He says now he can buy more things for the family since they have to pay a little less for fuel.
Vijay Sharma, of Gaji settlement and father of four school students said that he was very happy with the decrease in fuel price and also thanked the Fiji Government for declaring no fare for the students.
Fuel price has meant a lot to Sharma since he was not thinking of going anywhere today to visit families and wish Diwali greeting.
“I have families living in Nadera, Nausori and Tamavua and I have decided that just because fuel price has gone down I will visit all my family members after six months to greet them with Diwali wishing,” he said.
Meanwhile the cost of a litre of kerosene today will now be$1.34, a decrease of 8 cents, while the new price for motor spirit is $2 a litre, a decrease of 12 cents from $2.12.
The cost of a litre of diesel today will now cost $1.67, a decrease of 9cents, while one litre of premix outboard fuel will now cost $1.91 a litre, a decrease of 13 cents.
However, the decrease in fuel price is due to the reduction in refined product prices and the weakening of the US dollar against Fiji dollar
Traders and consumers are advised that the above prices will differ due to additional cartage and delivery charges.
